The White Fang 2018 story begins just before the wolf-dog hybrid was born, with two people and their dog team in a remote town called Fort MacGary in the upper reaches of the Yukon Territory. The surviving wolves are left to fend for themselves. Shortly afterward, the wolf kills all Lynx kittens to feed their Linda and prompts Lynch to trace her, and a vicious fight ensues. The wolf eventually kills the links but he is seriously hurt. The lumps are eaten over a period of seven days when the wolf heals from its wounds.
